OFAC updates sanctions and licenses related to Russia and DRC
The US OFAC has issued a new general license related to Russia and updated its sanctions list, affecting various entities and individuals.
The US Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has issued General License 131G, which authorizes certain transactions for negotiating and entering into contingent contracts involving Lukoil International GmbH. Additionally, OFAC has updated two Russia-related FAQs and revised its list of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN list).
The updates include sanctions and designations involving individuals and organizations linked to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Russia, Iran, Lebanon, and other regions. Notable entities affected include gas and gold mining companies based in Rwanda and individuals linked to sanctioned groups such as Hizballah and IRGC.
These measures reflect ongoing US efforts to enforce sanctions and restrict activities involving designated persons and entities. The new license may allow certain transactions that were previously restricted, potentially impacting crypto firms engaged in dealings with these entities.
For the crypto ecosystem, these updates could influence compliance requirements for transactions involving the affected entities or individuals, especially in regions with sanctions enforcement. It also signals continued US regulatory focus on monitoring and restricting dealings with sanctioned parties.
