Tino Cuellar Joins Anthropic as Chief Global Affairs Officer

Tino Cuellar, a distinguished figure with a background spanning law, international security, and public policy, has joined AI safety and research company Anthropic as its first Chief Global Affairs Officer. In this role, he will lead the company's efforts in policy development, strategic international engagement, and government relationships worldwide.

Cuellar's career includes serving as President of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a leading global policy research institution. He has also been a Justice of the Supreme Court of California, where he addressed issues related to technology, privacy, and international agreements. His academic roles include positions at Stanford University, where he has been involved in teaching and research on artificial intelligence.

He has served on various advisory boards, including the President's Intelligence Advisory Board and the US Department of State's Foreign Affairs Policy Board. Cuellar has also worked in the White House and federal agencies across three presidential administrations. His recent work includes co-chairing California’s Frontier AI Working Group and serving as a trustee of Anthropic's Long-Term Benefit Trust.

Cuellar's appointment comes at a critical juncture for Anthropic, as discussions around AI governance, security, and societal impact intensify globally. His expertise is expected to help the company navigate the complex landscape of AI regulation and ensure that its development aligns with democratic values and broad societal benefits.
