According to the US Bureau of Economic Analysis, the US's total foreign investment position reached $7.14 trillion at the end of 2025, marking an increase of $438.1 billion. The growth was primarily driven by a $350.2 billion rise in investments in Europe, especially in the United Kingdom and Luxembourg. The manufacturing sector saw the largest increase within the US, led by chemical manufacturing.
Meanwhile, foreign direct investment into the US also expanded significantly, increasing by $266 billion to reach $5.86 trillion. European investors contributed most notably, with a $182.4 billion increase, predominantly from German multinationals, which added $49 billion, and Canadian multinationals, which increased their holdings by $39.2 billion. The manufacturing industry, particularly electrical equipment and components, experienced the most growth.
