Solana reduces target slot time to 350 milliseconds

Solana has completed the first phase of its SIMD-0525 upgrade, lowering the target slot time from 400 ms to 350 ms, moving closer to its ultimate goal of 200 ms to enhance transaction confirmation speed.

The upgrade was activated on August 22, resulting in a new target slot time of 350 milliseconds. This change shortens block confirmation times and increases the frequency of slots. Consequently, an epoch consisting of 432,000 slots could be reduced from 48 hours to approximately 42 hours. It is important to note that this adjustment does not increase the network's overall throughput but accelerates validator leader rotations and transaction confirmations. Future phases aim to further decrease the target slot time to 200 ms, although specific timelines have not yet been announced. The current implementation has been confirmed as successful, marking a positive development in Solana's ongoing performance enhancements.
