On August 26, Shinhan Financial Group announced a strategic partnership with Visa to develop infrastructure for stablecoins in South Korea. The project involves utilizing Visa's technology to facilitate the issuance, transfer, settlement, and payment processes related to stablecoins. Participating institutions include Shinhan Bank, Shinhan Card, and Jeju Bank. This initiative indicates that major banks and payment providers are beginning to view stablecoins as a viable component of traditional financial infrastructure. Currently in the pilot phase, the project has not yet launched a final product but could lay the groundwork for broader adoption of stablecoins in South Korea's financial ecosystem.
