MetronomeDAO announced that approximately 6,367 msETH and 4.57 million msUSD, valued at around $15.7 million, lack collateral backing. This shortfall has arisen after trading bots exploited delayed price data in the protocol's swap feature over several months. The unbacked tokens represent about 31% of all msETH and 16% of msUSD in circulation.

The DAO attributes the issue to latency in Chainlink's price feeds, which caused a mismatch between the actual market prices and the data used by the protocol. This discrepancy allowed trading bots to manipulate the system, leading to the accumulation of unbacked tokens.

In response, the treasury has staged $34 million in defensive positions to close the gap and mitigate further risks. The incident highlights the importance of reliable oracle data in DeFi protocols and raises concerns about the security measures in place for price feeds.

MetronomeDAO has not yet provided detailed plans for further security enhancements or compensation measures for affected users, but the situation underscores ongoing challenges in DeFi infrastructure reliability.
