The Ethereum team has proposed a technical plan to transition the validator deposit contract to post-quantum cryptography. This move would enable the network to replace its current BLS cryptography with quantum-resistant signature schemes. Currently, over 42 million ETH are staked, valued at more than $100 billion. The proposal outlines a phased approach for integrating new credential types and migrating assets, marking a significant step toward long-term security amid emerging quantum computing threats. While quantum threats remain theoretical at present, the initiative demonstrates proactive security planning for Ethereum's future.
