OpenAI has introduced major reductions in the costs of its GPT-5.6 Luna and Terra models, with Luna's price dropping by 80% and Terra's by 20%. These changes are set to take effect from July 30 and apply to API access, ChatGPT Work, and Codex services. Alongside the price cuts, OpenAI launched a new mode called GPT-5.6 Sol Fast, which offers 2.5 times faster processing speeds at double the cost.

The reduced price for Luna, now at $0.20 per million input tokens, is expected to facilitate automation in document processing, data generation, and customer service, thereby increasing the competitiveness of OpenAI's offerings. The company claims that Luna can utilize tools and perform multi-step processes, while GPT-5.6 Sol aims to lower operational expenses by approximately 20%. Although independent verification of these new performance metrics is not yet available, the price reductions could accelerate the adoption of autonomous agent systems in various applications.
