Amazon Bedrock has announced the general availability of its AgentCore payments service, a tool designed to enable AI agents to perform autonomous transactions securely and efficiently. This service addresses the need for agents to handle payments for APIs, content, and services, integrating with Coinbase and Stripe Privy wallets to facilitate microtransactions often in cents. Developers can now set up payment capabilities by providing API keys and secrets, with enhanced security through the use of short-lived tokens and credential storage in the AgentCore Identity Secrets Manager.
The service supports multiple payment protocols, including the x402 protocol and the Machine Payment Protocol (MPP), allowing agents to pay for services without additional coding. It also introduces a 'upto' scheme, enabling agents to set spending limits rather than fixed prices, facilitating dynamic and pay-per-inference pricing models.
AgentCore payments enhances discoverability of pay-per-use endpoints by curating high-quality MCP server endpoints, and incorporates transaction limits within payment sessions to prevent overspending. For observability, it integrates with AgentCore Observability, providing comprehensive logs, metrics, and dashboards for transaction monitoring.
Use cases include paying for web content, pay-per-inference models, and financial or travel-related services, with collaborations already underway with companies like Anchor Browser, Cloudflare, SpreadX, Travala, Elsa AI, and Heurist AI. The service is accessible via multiple developer tools, including console, CLI, open-source frameworks, and integration with coding assistants.
Overall, Amazon Bedrock's AgentCore payments aims to facilitate a secure, scalable, and developer-friendly environment for autonomous agent transactions, supporting a broad range of applications and protocols, and enabling the emerging agentic economy.
The general availability of AgentCore payments enhances the capabilities of autonomous AI agents to perform secure, scalable transactions across various use cases, supporting the growth of agentic AI applications.
